When Merchant Taylors’ school in Crosby, Liverpool decided to invest £5m in the re-development of the Girls’ Junior and Mixed Infant school they turned to Eric Wright Construction to help deliver the new building. In turn our long standing client Eric Wright, asked AV Group to support the project and provide the usual site accommodation services. We were delighted to help and have supplied six office units which incorporate a canteen, showers and drying rooms, toilet block, office spaces and a conference room.

So far so good, but when the construction team hit the point in the build programme where they had to demolish the existing school kitchen and dining facilities, before building new ones, it left the team needing to find a solution to feed up to 300 children each day in a clean, safe and hygienic space.

We knew that we could very quickly deliver and install a suitable space and supplied four Openspace modules as a temporary dining facility. We upgraded the units to give a completely open area with no support posts. This enabled the dining room to be set up so that the pupils could eat their meals in a fit for purpose environment, not off their knees in a classroom!

Commenting on the instruction Eric Wright project Manager Kevin Burgoyne said: “I always enjoy working with the AV Group team as I know they deliver on time and on target. They really pulled out the stops to provide the temporary dining facility which is perfect. As there are no intermediate walls or supporting columns the space can easily be configured by the staff to accommodate as many pupils as possible. “

He added: “The pupils are extremely excited about the project and were even more so when England Captain Steven Gerrard popped in to sign a steel girder to mark the investment.”

The ongoing two-phase major redevelopment , which began in July 2013, will deliver a two storey extension, forming new classrooms, specialist teaching rooms and offices to enhance the schools’ facilities for the next generation of pupils and is due for completion in early 2015.
